The Zeitschrift für Thüringische Geschichte (ZThG) contains articles on all facets of Thuringian history without any temporal limitation. It is the only regional historical forum including all territorial dimensions, historical epochs and administrations of Thuringia. It is published every year in September at the "Day of Thuringian History" and contains, besides articles, miscellanea and conference reports, a broad review section on regional historical studies of all epochs and topics.

Founded in 1852 as Zeitschrift des Vereins für Thüringische Geschichte und Altertumskunde, a total of 45 volumes and 28 supplements were publishd until 1943. After an interruption of almost fifty years, the journal was continued in 1992 with volume 46 as Zeitschrift des Vereins für Thüringische Geschichte (ZVThG) [Journal of the Association forThuringian History]. Since volume 62 (2008) the journal has been published as Zeitschrift für Thüringische Geschichte (ZThG) in collaboration with the Historische Kommission für Thüringen.

The ZThG is widely disseminated primarily by exchange with more than 100 national and international historical associations, university libraries and non-university research institutions. In competition with other regional historical journals in Germany, the journal takes a leading position.
