2023Bayerisches Jahrbuch für Volkskunde
The Bavarian Yearbook of European Ethnology [Bayerisches Jahrbuch für Volkskunde] was founded in 1950. It publishes articles and reviews. In the article-section, findings of research pertaining to modern cultural analysis on various aspects of everyday culture are presented in a problem-oriented way. This includes a wide range of topics, such as material culture, narrative culture, customs, religious and visual culture, and manifold immaterial cultural heritage. Even though the regional focus is on Bavaria, cultural processes in an increasingly connected world are only comprehensible in larger terms. For that reason, the Yearbook also ventures into other German territories and European countries in its contributions.
In the extensive review section, both historically oriented studies and studies focusing on the present are reviewed, alongside methodical and theoretical works. The geographical perspective is a transnational one. Through this concept, the review section of the Bavarian Yearbook for European Ethnology is of central discursive importance for the subjects Ethnography, Historical and Cultural Anthropology and Comparative European Ethnology. This is possible due to a large network of colleagues who are involved, coming from various disciplines and based in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other countries.
